Scientists Have Discovered Clue to Male Baldness

Male baldness

In a report in the journal “Science Translational Medicine” US scientists have claimed that they have discovered a protein that triggers hair fall.

This discovery has raised the prospect for the treatment to stop or reverse reduced hair.

Prof George Cotsarelis, of the department of dermatology, who led the research, said: “Essentially we showed that prostaglandin protein was elevated in the bald scalp of men and that it inhibited hair growth. So we identified a target for treating male-pattern baldness.”

“The next step would be to screen for compounds that affect this receptor and to also find out whether blocking that receptor would reverse balding or just prevent balding – a question that would take a while to figure out.”

“The inhibition of hair growth is triggered when the protein binds to a receptor on the cells of hair follicles,” said Prof Cotsarelis.

Luxury cruise liner involved in collision off Vietnam

Cruise ship

In deep fog a luxury cruise ship named Silver Shadow hit a container ship in the coast of Vietnam on Friday morning. The container ship got a hole and the passengers got a heavy jerk.

Andrew Lock, a passenger of the ship, said, “The foghorn at the back of the ship had been going off consistently, throughout the morning.”

“But there was a certain point in time when the foghorn at the front of the ship suddenly sounded. And it was much louder. And it caused us to look up. And in fact we looked up straight out of the window. And through the fog, to our horror, we saw this Vietnamese container ship appear, sideways on. And it was as if our ship was perfectly lined up to hit it in the side.”

“So, it was a horrifying moment. And in less than about five seconds after the ship appeared. We did in fact collide right in the side of it.”

The Asian Ship owners’ Forum has decided to call for a UN resolution which would manage armed personnel on board ships sailing through pirate infested waters.   The voluntary international forum ‘Working Group 3’ which was formed three years ago to combat piracy wants the UN should follow the counter-piracy proposal.

The statement said, “The ASF has proposed its counter-piracy proposal to be seriously considered for adoption by the UN,”

“The key idea is to use floating bases on sea to serve as embarkation or disembarkation points for these military personnel.”

Transas Reveals Its Fuel Efficiency Monitoring System

Wave by Transas

Transas has designed an efficient tool called Wave to monitor and record ship’s fuel consumption. This can fit on every ship because it’s a standalone application. This tool is connected to the navigation sensors, engine data, flow meter and emission sensors to collect information. These data is used to optimize the operation of the vessel.
