How to maintain Seasickness on a Sailing Holiday

Sea sicknessSeasickness is a kind of motion sickness, similar to travel sickness. A lot of people suffer this seasickness when they travel by ship or boat. Traditionally it is believed that the motion of the boat in the water causes discomfort in the abdominal region which led to nausea and vomiting. However, from the recent research it is proved that the main reason for the seasickness is the unfavorable condition of mind.

Our mind needs something still and solid to concentrate on. As the boat moves, for some people it causes nausea. Many people try to sleep or go below decks to avoid seasickness. But the best way to prevent this is to stay on the deck as well as to focus on the horizon. Because the horizon is still, our mind can switch its reference point from the moving boat to it.

It is important to get used to the sensations of the boat as quick as possible. To do this you should not read anything, watch TV, or even converse with the fellow travelers at very beginning of your journey. Of course you can do those things once you are adapted with the boat condition. Never forget to pack anti-sickness medication.

It is also important to have some food before getting on the boat. Because hunger can make you feel very nauseous. Also, don’t take any alcohol before boarding, as alcohol can irritate your stomach and you may feel very discomfort for this.

Before you set off on your holiday, you should check out the facilities of your marina and make sure that you’re prepared well for your holiday by stocking up at your marina. Keep in mind all the points that we have discussed above and try to follow those to stop the bad feeling on your wonderful boating holiday.
